چکیده

This study focuses on the potential impacts of large-scale land use and land cover changes (LUCC) on surface temperature from a global perspective. As important types of LUCC, urbanization, deforestation, cultivated land reclamation, and grassland degradation have effects on the climate, the potential changes of the surface temperature caused by these four types of large-scale LUCC from 2010 to 2050 are downscaled, and this issue analyzed worldwide along with Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The first case study presents some evidence of the effects of future urbanization on surface temperature in the Northeast megalopolis of the United States of America (USA). In order to understand the potential climatological variability caused by future forest deforestation and vulnerability, we chose Brazilian Amazon region as the second case study. The third selected region in India as a typical region of cultivated land reclamation where the possible climatic impacts are explored. In the fourth case study, we simulate the surface temperature changes caused by future grassland degradation in Mongolia. Results show that the temperature in built-up area OPEN ACCESS Energies 2014, 7 2721 would increase obviously throughout the four land types. In addition, the effects of all four large-scale LUCC on monthly average temperature change would vary from month to month with obviously spatial heterogeneity.

Evaluate the performance of SDSM model in different station and predict climate variables for future

According to the fourth report from the IPCC was confirmed climate change and its impacts on drought, floods, health problems and food shortages. Therefore, understanding of how climate change could be important in the management of resources, especially water resources management. Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) are tools for predicting the future climate variables and it mu...

Climate and land use change impacts on global terrestrial ecosystems and river flows in the HadGEM2-ES Earth system model using the representative concentration pathways

A new generation of an Earth system model now includes a number of land-surface processes directly relevant to analyzing potential impacts of climate change. This model, HadGEM2-ES, allows us to assess the impacts of climate change, multiple interactions, and feedbacks as the model is run. This paper discusses the results of centuryscale HadGEM2-ES simulations from an impacts perspective – spec...

Using the IHACRES model to investigate the impacts of changing climate on streamflow in a semi-arid basin in north-central Iran

Understanding the variations of streamflow of rivers is an important prerequisite for designing hydraulic structures as well as managing surface water resources in basins. An overview of the impact of climate change on the streamflow in the Hablehroud River, the main river of a semi-arid basin in north-central Iran, is provided. Using the LARS-WG statistical downscaling model, the outputs of Ha...

Health Impacts of the Urban Climate and Air Quality under Two Different IPCC Scenarios

The objective of this research is to quantify the future (2030, 2050 and 2100) short-term health effects of the global climate over five European Cities: Madrid, Antwerp, Milan, Helsinki and London with very high spatial resolution (200 meters) respect to the present (2011) under two IPCC climate projections RCP 4.5 (stabilization emission scenario) and RCP 8,5 (increase emission scenario). To ...

Global Climate Responses to Land Use and Land Cover Changes Over the Past Two Millennia

A reconstructed land use/land cover change (LUCC) dataset was used with the Community Earth System Model (CESM) to conduct a climate sensitivity analysis over the past two millennia. Compared to a controlled experiment conducted with the CESM, the LUCC showed significant biogeophysical effects on global climate on multi-decadal to centennial time scales. The global annual mean temperature and p...
